Over forty thousand years ago, the elves fled Xen'drik and the fall of the giants. They went ashore on the subcontinent of Aerenal, a tropical land threaded with manifest zones to Irian, the positive energy plane.

Time moves strangely in Aerenal. Its culture is truly old, shaped by a people whose life spans routinely exceed five centuries.

In their early days, the Aereni discovered Irian's energy could be harnessed to preserve their dead as positive energy undead― the deathless. Over generations, the most revered of these deathless spiritual leaders formed the Undying Court, a council of deathless sages who are worshiped as a collective divine force.

Aerenal is different from the young nations of Khorvaire. Its customs, priorities, the pace of life, and even its definition of life and death are unlike anywhere else on Eberron. It is an ancient land— a peaceful one, but far from simple.
