Changelings

A changeling prepares to strike

"Changelings have the supernatural ability to alter their appearance, changing their size, shape, appearance and voice to resemble any member of a medium-sized humanoid race. A changeling can use this ability at will, and the alteration lasts until they change shape again. If killed, a changeling reverts to their natural form."1

"Members of most other races have a clear answer to the question “What am I?” Not so with changelings. The mutability of changelings means that they have no one clear place in the world. Changelings live within other races’ societies and cultures. They lack any true culture or society of their own and hence most live as aliens among other races."2

"In general, changelings are prudent and cautious, preferring to take risks only when they feel that their chances of success are good or the payoff is worth it. They appreciate the finer things in life and take great pleasure in the comforts of a wealthy lifestyle when they can obtain it. They avoid direct confrontation, preferring stealthy strikes and hasty retreats whenever possible. In conversation, they are soft-spoken but have a gift for drawing out more information than the other party intends to reveal."

"Nobody with any sense completely trusts a changeling. Many people, however, have reason to do business with them. Most members of other races treat changelings with caution."1

Description

Physique. Changelings stand between 5 and 6 feet tall and average about 140 lb in their true form. They have pale gray skin, and their hair is thin and fair. Their limbs are long and slightly out of proportion. Their eyes are blank and white, and their facial features are somewhat indistinct, as though they're not quite as finished as those on a human.

Age. Changelings reach adulthood at age 15. They hit middle age around 45 and are considered old past age 60. While changelings can transform to conceal their age, the effects of aging affect them the same as any humanoid race.

Size. A Changeling's size is Medium. To set your height and weight randomly, start with rolling a size modifier:

Height = 5 feet + 1 inch + your size modifier in inches
Weight = 115 pounds + (2d4 x your size modifier in pounds)
