Explosive Runes
3rd-level abjuration
Casting Time: 1 action
Range: Touch
Components: V, S
Duration: 7 days or until triggered
Classes: Sorcerer, Wizard
You inscribe glowing magical runes onto a written object such as a scroll, book, letter, or map. When a creature reads the protected text, the runes explode in a burst of force. The object must weigh no more than 10 pounds and must contain readable writing.
A creature reading the runes triggers the trap, which explodes dealing 6d6 force damage. Every creature within 10 feet must make a Dexterity saving throw, taking half damage on a success or full damage on a failure. The triggering creature makes their saving throw with disadvantage. The object bearing the runes also takes full damage.
You and any creatures you designate when casting the spell can read the writing without triggering the explosion. You can dismiss the spell early as an action.
At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 4th level or higher, the damage increases by 2d6 for each slot level above 2nd.
