Where Cyre once shone now lies the Mournland— a blasted wasteland born 4 years ago in a cataclysm known as the Day of Mourning. Survivors speak of a terrible gray mist that swept over the nation faster than a human could run. This same mist remains, forming a permanent shroud overhead and a miles-wide fog encircling the cursed land.

Within the Mournland, the natural order is twisted by uncontrolled arcane energies. Corpses killed in battle on the Day of Mourning do not decay, and creatures that still live within are horribly warped and changed. Normal healing, whether natural or magical, simply doesn't work here. Adventurers brave enough to explore must carefully plan their survival— otherwise the Mourning will claim them too.

However, magic and tools designed to repair constructs still function, making the Mournland more hospitable to warforged. Small warforged enclaves exist here, most notably one led by a messianic figure known as the Lord of Blades. He preaches a coming apocalypse, promising the warforged will inherit all of Khorvaire.
