The Shadow Marshes
The Shadow Marshes is a vast stretch of marshland, humid and heavy with fog, with tangled waterways and thick vegetation. Its people are mostly humans, orcs, and half-orcs, who see themselves as one people. The Marshes have no major cities; life here is rural, insular, and self-reliant. The Shadow Marshes are far from the heart of the continent’s commerce and politics, and they like it that way.
Seven thousand years ago, the Marshes were ground zero for a planar invasion of aberrations spilled into the world from Xoriat, the Plane of Madness. The invaders were pushed back, but they left deep scars. Ruins from that time still dot the landscape, half-sunken and overgrown, and strange creatures still emerge from them at times. Because of this, Gatekeeper druids maintain a presence here. They keep watch over ancient seals and hunt down anything that escapes.
