Thrane

Thrane is a theocracy ruled by the Church of the Silver Flame. Its capital, Flamekeep, is built around a great column of silver fire that burns eternally in the heart of the Grand Cathedral.

The Church of the Silver Flame defines daily life in Thrane. Its doctrine is strict, its ideals uncompromising, and its influence widespread. Non-believers tend to find life in Thrane difficult; even believers can struggle if they fail to meet the Church’s high expectations.

The Keeper of the Flame serves as both spiritual and temporal leader of Thrane. The current Keeper, Jaela Daran, was appointed by divine sign despite her young age—she's just 11 years old. Officially, her word is law. In practice, the Council of Cardinals wield most of the power.

To make matters worse, Thrane’s economy is under severe strain. Like the other Five Nations, it emerged from the Last War with war debt— but easily 10× more than any other nation. Worse yet, much of its war funding came from dubious lenders; it’s now beholden to shadowy interests with their own agendas.
